The Scout Group have been busy fundraising over the last few weeks to raise money for leader training and upkeep of the scout hut.

A fantastic disco / fun night was held for the Beavers and Cubs, kindly hosted by Debbie Townsends' dad. He kept everyone entertained with some fab party games and dances.

A charity car wash was also held at Saint Marys' Court, Clayton le Moors. Scouts spent 2 hours washing a total of 12 cars. The customers were very pleased with the results and wanted to know when we would be doing it again.

Watch this space for more fantastic fundraising events in the near future!

The Story of the Scout Hut

The Parents Committee had been discussing what to do with the Scout Hut for over two years! It was only when Brian Enderwitz offered the help of his students at Accrington and Rossendale College, that we realised we had to get our act together and clear it out, so that the work could be done.

What a job! We hired a skip in May 2007 and spent one evening filling it with some of the junk that was piled high in the Scout Hut. The skip was due to be collected the next morning. Unfortunately, no more than two hours after we left, someone decided it would be a good idea to set fire to the contents of the skip!

BEFORE! ..............................................AFTER!

Fortunately, there was little damage to the hut itself, apart from the burglar alarm which had melted in the heat. Although we had filled one skip, there were still many runs to the tip to get rid of the rest of the stuff.

It was decided to make a claim on the insurance policy to repair the roof, as it had obviously been vandalised by someone climbing on it and also throwing stones on it. Several months passed as we waited for quotes to be approved by the insurance company and it wasn’t until March 2008, when things finally began moving again.

Now, the roof has been repaired and a new door and casing have been fitted. These had become rotten and needed to be replaced before the floor could be fitted.

A second hand kitchen is going to be fitted in the next few weeks to replace , the lovely model above!

We have received a grant from Thwaites Brewery to purchase a new fridge / freezer and cooker for the kitchen.

BEFORE! .............................................AFTER!

A new burglar alarm was fitted as part of the insurance claim, after being melted in the skip fire.

The Scout Hut has been repainted by the students of Accrington and Rossendale College, so the damp patches are a thing of the past!
New flooring has been fitted by the students of Accrington and Rossendale College.

Senator International has donated 20 brand new chairs for the Scout Hut.

So, after almost twelve months, the end is in sight, as the Scout Hut finally takes shape!

St Georges Day Parade

All Saints Scout Group took part in the St Georges Day Parade in Accrington on Sunday 22nd April 2007.

St George led the parade on his horse , through the streets of Accrington to St James Church.

There were lots of other Scout groups from across Hyndburn who joined in the parade. St George is the patron saint of Scouting and this year was extra special as we were celebrating 100 years of Scouting.
